Bathroom renovation pricing

Tiling sets the floor.
Fixtures set the ceiling.

A bathroom quote splits cleanly into two pools: tiling priced by area, and fixtures priced one by one. Waterproofing and finish grade sit on top of both.

What actually sets the price

Four inputs explain almost all of the variation between two bathroom quotes.

02 / METHOD
01

Room area

Tiling is priced by the square foot across both floor and wet-wall area, so a larger bathroom scales that cost directly.

02

Tile grade

Standard, premium, and designer tiles sit at different rate tiers for material and the labour to lay them.

03

Waterproofing

A membrane treatment applied before tiling — skippable for a cosmetic refresh, essential for a full renovation.

04

Fixtures

WCs, basins, showers and tubs are each supplied and fitted at a flat cost that doesn't depend on room size.

Frequently asked

03 / FAQ
Do I need waterproofing if I'm only re-tiling?+
Not always — if the existing membrane is intact and you're not changing the layout, a tiling-only refresh can skip it. A full renovation that touches plumbing lines should not skip it.
Why does a bathtub cost so much more than a shower enclosure?+
A tub needs a larger fixture, a filler tap, waste and overflow plumbing, and often structural support for the water weight — all of which a shower enclosure avoids.
What counts as "full renovation" versus "tiling + fixtures"?+
Full renovation assumes plumbing lines are being moved or replaced, not just reconnected — which adds labour on top of the tiling and fixture costs.
